Relax Through Your Visit with Gentle Sedation Dentistry

Comfortable Care with Nitrous Oxide at First Weston Dental

At First Weston Dental, we understand that visiting the dentist can feel overwhelming for many patients. Whether you’ve had a bad experience in the past or simply feel anxious at the thought of dental treatment, you're not alone — and we're here to help.

That’s why we offer nitrous oxide sedation (commonly known as laughing gas), a safe and gentle way to help you relax while remaining awake and responsive throughout your visit.

What Is Nitrous Oxide?

Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose. It takes effect within minutes and helps reduce feelings of fear, anxiety, or discomfort. The calming sensation wears off quickly after the mask is removed — so you can resume your normal activities, including driving home.

How Nitrous Oxide Works

Nitrous oxide is a mixture of a tasteless, odorless sedative gas and oxygen that is breathed in through a mask worn over your nose. This type of sedation does not require our patients to take anxiety medication before their appointment or endure an IV sedation method. While you are breathing in the nitrous oxide, you will be fully conscious and able to take directions from our dentist. However, you will feel extremely calm and relaxed, and completely free from fear, anxiety, or stress. Once the procedure is complete and the mask removed, the effects of the nitrous oxide will start to wear off immediately.

Is Nitrous Oxide Right for Me?

Nitrous oxide is a great option if you:

  • Feel nervous or fearful about dental procedures
  • Have a sensitive gag reflex
  • Struggle with numbing agents or long appointments
  • Avoid dental care due to anxiety

Our compassionate team will walk you through the process and monitor you closely to ensure you feel at ease from start to finish.
